In Çanakkale, the first question regarding fire system maintenance is not technical but geographical: on which side of the strait is the facility located and how is it accessed—by road or ferry. The ceramic kilns of Çan, the food processing facilities of Ezine and Ayvacık, the timber yards around Kepez port, the wind farms extending from Gelibolu to the islands, and accommodation facilities are all in the same province but under different access conditions. We plan periodic inspections and fault response by considering both constraints together—transportation and production schedule.

What distinguishes Çanakkale is not the number of facilities, but the water between them. Production is distributed across both sides of the strait: on the Anatolian side at Kepez Çanakkale OSB, focused on iron-steel and food Biga OSB, established for dairy-cheese and olives Ezine Food Specialization OSB, the geothermal greenhouse specialization zone in Ayvacık, Çan's coal-ceramic axis; on the opposite shore the Gallipoli Peninsula, offshore Bozcaada and Gökçeada. Land connection established in 2022 via the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge (Lapseki–Sütlüce), the rest served by Çanakkale–Eceabat, Geyikli–Bozcaada and Kabatepe–Gökçeada ferry lines. When planning maintenance, we first consult the sailing schedule, then open the calendar.

This changes the logistics content itself: at a site reached by road, a missing part is completed the next day; on Gökçeada, the same missing part waits for the next available sailing. For this reason, work is structured to close in a single visit — everything installed from sensing to pump groups, from gaseous suppression to portable cylinders is combined in a single contract, and if the facility requests camera maintenance (CCTV), it is written into the same scope.

Three headings that complicate maintenance on both shores of the strait

Dust, temperature and incorrectly selected detector in kiln line

In ceramics, risk is not only in the kiln, but in the chain leading to the kiln: grinding, drying, conveyor, dust collection. Air is constantly dusty, temperature is high; standard optical smoke detector fails in two directions — it false alarms when its chamber fills, and goes silent as soiling advances. Detector alarm alone is not deemed sufficient: after cleaning, sensitivity value is read; at chronic spots, transition to heat rate-sensitive detector or flame detector is made; in dusty volumes, piped aspirated sensing is recommended. Layout is evaluated per CEN/TS 54-14; wet protection in drying and finished product storage we assess by TS EN 12845 and NFPA 25 criteria.

Work on island and peninsula: part, sailing, weather

On Bozcaada, Gökçeada and the Gallipoli Peninsula, the main difficulty is not technical but logistical; when winter winds cancel sailings, a team waits days for a single panel card. For this reason, we do not divide island visits into inspection and maintenance; preparation before sailing runs as follows:

  • System inventory, panel brand and past fault record are obtained remotely.
  • Possible spares — panel card, detector base, siren, cylinder valve, battery group — are packed into the kit from the start.
  • Full scenario tests with sirens are scheduled outside season due to high summer occupancy at accommodation facilities.
  • To prevent work from remaining incomplete, the day is tied not to the last sailing of the schedule but to the preceding one.
  • Closed season is not lost time: the waiting pump's seals dry, batteries expire — comprehensive work fits into this window.

Unmanned field and changing stacking

Wind farm switchgear buildings, transformer cells and field depots are mostly unmanned; when the suppression system operates there, no one sees it; when it fails, no one notices. On the gaseous side, cylinder weighing, pressure reading, trigger line integrity and panel-relay matching are addressed per TS ISO 14520 framework; whether detection actually reports to the remote monitoring center is tested separately. Behind port storage yards and cold air facilities the problem is reversed: the system sits in place but the protected area has changed — stacking has risen, corridors have shifted, space under the head has closed; at the visit, actual layout is overlaid on the project. Coastal corrosion, TS 11827 on portable extinguishers, and NFPA 17A and NFPA 96 in kitchen frying line are addressed in the same round.

How the regional tour departing from Ankara covers Çanakkale

We have no registered service address or sign in Çanakkale; each entry is a regional tour planned from the Ankara Yenimahalle center — which explains the center's operation; inspection within Ankara is free of charge. We do not give an inspection promise for the same day: over the distance, ferry schedule and weather mean that promise cannot be kept from the start; instead we give a date and we keep it. The route follows the western branch of the Marmara; from the bridge to Gallipoli and Lapseki, thence to Biga and Çan, then the center and Kepez, on return Ezine and Ayvacık are lined in the same sailing, island facilities enter the program according to that week's schedule. The benefit is not discount but predictability: maintenance day is written to the calendar at inspection. Ankara maintenance page At fault notification, the first task is not to set out but to make the panel speak; error code, a few clear photos and circuit information often tell which card or which valve is speaking, the right spare goes to the vehicle with that information. To Set Up Your Maintenance Program

One contract, a solution for everything: we provide end-to-end maintenance to fire detection, gas suppression, sprinkler, hydrant, and pump units in their entirety; if you wish, camera (CCTV) system maintenance can also be added to the same contract.

If you do not have the brand, age, and last maintenance record of the existing system on hand, that is not a problem; the first step is anyway inventory and current condition assessment. Setting up an annual program without seeing what is there in the field means selling maintenance for a system that does not exist.

You can examine your system brand's product equivalents in our product catalog ; for requirements specific to your facility's use class, you can visit our sectoral solutions pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you actually come for maintenance to our facility on Bozcaada or Gökçeada?

We do, but visits are scheduled according to ferry timetables. System inventory, panel brand and past fault records are obtained remotely in advance; we pre-load possible spares (panel card, detector base, siren, cylinder valve, battery) so that the job is completed in one visit. The plan is made according to the return ferry's previous departure time, not the last one, so the work does not remain incomplete and extend to the next ferry. If the ferry is cancelled in winter due to weather, the appointment is rescheduled.

Can you come to Çanakkale the same day after the bridge opens?

No, and we do not promise this. The bridge has facilitated the Lapseki–Sütlüce crossing, but for a team coming from Ankara the distance is still distance; on the islands and in some districts, ferry schedules and weather conditions compound this. Instead, we commit to a date: the date written on the calendar at the survey is honored; if it changes, prior notice is given. In case of emergency failure, the first step is not to set out on the road, but to perform remote preliminary diagnosis from the panel; a portion of the problem is resolved at this stage.

At our ceramic facility in Çan, the detectors are constantly giving false alarms, what should be done?

In this scenario the device selection and environmental conditions typically do not match. On grinding, drying and dust collection lines, the chamber of an optical smoke detector becomes clogged with dust; false alarms begin first, and as contamination progresses the device loses sensitivity. During maintenance, the sensitivity value is read after cleaning; at chronically affected locations, a heat detector sensitive to rate of temperature rise, a flame detector, or aspiration-based detection is recommended. The installation is re-evaluated according to CEN/TS 54-14 criteria.

Our dairy products and aquaculture processing facility is washed every day; will detection withstand this?

IP class low-humidity devices absorb moisture and fail silently; in cold storage the same outcome is caused by internal condensation. During maintenance, the protection class and sealing of the devices, condensation traces and deposits on sprinkler heads are checked. On frying and cooking lines, wet chemical system nozzle placement and exhaust duct cleaning are addressed according to NFPA 17A and NFPA 96 criteria. Operating hours are adjusted according to washing and shift schedules.

Our wind power plant's switchhouse is unmanned; how can we know if the gas system there is operating?

The only way to know is to measure regularly, because in an unmanned building a fault does not reveal itself. During the visit, cylinders are weighed, pressure is read, the integrity of the triggering line and panel-relay matching are inspected within the TS ISO 14520 framework. Additionally, whether the detection actually sends a signal to the remote monitoring center is tested — this is where most surprises emerge. Findings are reported with date and values, and compared at the next visit.
