GST is one of the fire alarm brands with the widest installed base in Turkey: there are numerous panels in factories, hotels, and public buildings that are over 10 years old but still in operation. On this page, we explain the scope of periodic maintenance in GST systems and "replace or repair?" how this decision is made.

We provide regular maintenance for GST-addressed and conventional fire alarm systems, respond to faults, and handle revision and parts replacement with the same team when needed. Our catalog contains 76 GST products ; most parts encountered in maintenance—from detectors to loop expansion cards—are either in stock or can be procured in the short term.

GST installed base in Turkey: "old" does not mean "scrap"

GST has been applied in numerous projects across Turkey for many years, from factories to hotels, from public buildings to business centers. Today there are many GST systems in the field that are over 10 years old but still in operation: single-loop GST200N panels, multi-loop GST-IFP8 control units and older conventional series. The common problem with these facilities is not the brand or age of the system, but rather having received no measured maintenance for yearsafter suppression.

"This panel is now old, replace it completely" is not a maintenance assessment—it is a sales proposal. We start from the opposite direction: first, the actual condition of the existing system is measured, then a decision is made. The most common situation we encounter in older GST facilities is this:

  • Zones deactivated during alterations and never reactivated — the panel appears quiescent, the area is unprotected
  • Fault warnings that have become routine through repeated silencing; because the event log was never read, the root cause of the recurring error was never found
  • Batteries that exhausted their lifespan years ago — the system silently goes offline the first night the mains power fails
  • False alarms caused by detectors that have reached the contamination limit, and as a "solution" the detector is removed from its base

None of these items require panel replacement; all are resolved through regular maintenance.

Period: not regulation, but standard determines

Looking for maintenance intervals in regulatory text yields no result: the Regulation on Fire Protection of Buildings directs the frequency question to the installation standard to which the system is subject and to the manufacturer's maintenance program. For detection systems, this standard is TS CEN/TS 54-14; the standard distributes tasks across levels ranging from daily to annual—the panel is checked daily, power supply and indicators are inspected monthly, functional tests are performed quarterly, and a comprehensive site test is conducted annually. Daily and monthly items can be carried out by building personnel; quarterly and annual items require competent service. The general framework of the maintenance order is fire systems maintenance on that page.

Maintenance Scope in GST Systems

ItemWhat is done
Deactivation inspectionA list of closed zones, devices and sirens is drawn up; each is queried, unnecessary ones are reactivated—this is the first item of maintenance
Event log analysisThe aim is not to see individual faults but to catch repetition: a device lost every month means a loose terminal; ground fault every rain means a junction box taking water
Detector testsDI-9102E optical smoke and DI-9103E heat detectors are tested with test spray and thermal test device genuinely triggered; reading the address does not count as a test
Button and siren testDI-9204E resettable buttons are tested with a test key; sirens' audibility on-site is verified
Loop measurementsLine integrity and the function of C9503 short-circuit isolators are tested; if an open-ended pulled loop is detected it is reported
Power supply and batteryTransition from mains to battery load behavior under are monitored; battery manufacturing date is read, output of external power sources such as PSU24-10A is measured
Module and scenarioElevator, damper, door release and suppression triggers are tested with actual events via DI-9300E / DI-9301E input-output modules

Should the panel be renewed or repaired?

In older GST facilities this is the real question, and the decision is made not by age but by three measures : card and parts availability, loop cable condition, fault record history. A panel with available parts, intact cable and isolated faults is repaired. For a panel whose cards can no longer be found or whose faults have become chronic, phased transition renewal is planned: in most projects, a significant portion of the existing loop cable is preserved, site devices are replaced in stages, and the facility is never left unprotected for a night.

We explained in detail the criteria for this decision and how it is made step by step in Should the fire panel be renewed or repaired? article.

Service Model: Ankara Center, Nationwide Turkey

Our center is located in Ankara Yenimahalle; we do not have branch offices by province. Instead we operate planned regional tours and perform remote preliminary diagnosis : the panel screen photograph and event log are sufficient to narrow down the source of the problem without visiting the site in most faults; the team departs with spare parts. On-site inspection within Ankara is free of charge.

If your GST panel triggers other systems in the building, you do not need to manage separate companies: we consolidate all fire systems from detection to gas suppression in a single maintenance contract, and for those requesting it we add CCTV maintenance to the same visit.

Request a Report on Your Existing System

If you have faced a renewal proposal or are uncertain about your panel's condition, have documentation before deciding: let us prepare a current condition report containing the deactivation list, battery status, number of devices tested and fault history; let us decide together on repair or renewal based on this report. You can call 0312 385 15 66 write from the You can write with a photograph of your panel.

To Set Up Your Maintenance Program

One contract, a solution for everything: we provide end-to-end maintenance to fire detection, gas suppression, sprinkler, hydrant, and pump units in their entirety; if you wish, camera (CCTV) system maintenance can also be added to the same contract.

If you do not have the brand, age, and last maintenance record of the existing system on hand, that is not a problem; the first step is anyway inventory and current condition assessment. Setting up an annual program without seeing what is there in the field means selling maintenance for a system that does not exist.

You can examine your system brand's product equivalents in our product catalog ; for requirements specific to your facility's use class, you can visit our sectoral solutions pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you an authorized GST service provider?

We do not claim to be an authorized service center; we sell GST products and perform periodic maintenance and fault service on installed systems. Our catalog contains 76 GST products including panels, detectors, buttons and modules. For devices under warranty, the manufacturer's conditions apply; we will clarify with you before going to the site whether the intervention to be performed will affect this scope.

Are spare parts still available for the old GST panel?

Most items such as detectors, fire alarm buttons, input-output modules, short-circuit isolators and loop expansion cards are available in our catalog. If a card cannot be found, the system will not become scrap overnight: a phased transition plan is arranged, important sections of the existing loop cable are preserved and the facility is not left unprotected during the transition.

My GST panel frequently gives false alarms; must it be replaced?

Most often, no. The majority of false alarms stem from detectors that have reached their contamination limit, incorrect detector selection in areas exposed to steam and dust, or loose connections. First, the event log is read, recurring addresses are identified and the relevant detectors are tested with actual triggering. The replacement decision is made after these measurements, based on the current condition report.

How frequently should GST fire alarm system maintenance be performed?

You will not find the frequency in the regulation clause; BYKHY leaves this question to the standard to which the system is connected. The measurement standard for detection is TS CEN/TS 54-14: it provides a tiered program ranging from daily panel review to comprehensive field testing performed annually. Daily and monthly items can be performed by building personnel; quarterly and annual items require competent service. For dusty and humid facilities, the period is tightened.

Another company had installed the system; can you take over its maintenance?

Yes. Regardless of who performed the installation, an inventory is first drawn up: panel model, number of loops, field devices list and scenario inventory. If project documentation is lost, the inventory is extracted from the field and the facility file is recreated; subsequent maintenance proceeds in a manner comparable against this record.

We are outside Ankara; how do you handle GST faults?

We do not have branch offices by province; we operate planned regional tours and remote preliminary diagnosis nationwide. Screen photos of the panel and event logs allow us to narrow down the problem without going to the site in most faults; the team travels with spare parts. In contracts, planned maintenance and emergency fault intervention are defined separately, so both parties work with a realistic commitment.
