In Van, fire safety discussions for warehouses start with shelf height. Cargo wagons transported by ferry across the lake from Tatvan are unloaded in Van; those heading to Iran are pulled to Kapıköy Border Gate in Saray district and continue toward Tebriz. A transshipment route means the cargo waits in the city for a period of time ; the counterpart to this waiting is the warehouse. This mixed character makes uniform "OSB package" maintenance impossible. Dust in flour and feed constantly triggers false alarms in incorrectly positioned detectors; fire load grows rapidly in sponge, furniture and footwear, sprinkler flow becomes critical; at filling facilities, gas detection and evacuation scenario are configured separately; in foundries, due to heat and sparks, beam or flame detection is discussed instead of point detectors. Factory and production facility maintenance is planned according to each parcel's own risk classification.
Milk line is seasonal, not permanent infrastructure
Geographically protected Van herbal cheese is produced mainly in Erciş and Gevaş regions during spring when sheep milk is abundant. Some dairies operate at full capacity during certain periods of the year and at reduced pace otherwise.
A common error we observe is slowing maintenance when production slows. Yet in an idle facility, the cooling machine room, control panels and cold storage remain energized. Detection in the compressor, local suppression inside the panel, detector selection adapted to the cold storage's temperature differential, and addressing freezing risk are tasks for the low-production season. A detector fouled by milk powder and oil becomes indistinguishable from false alarms regarding genuine events.
Public buildings, hospital floors and school storage
After the 2011 earthquake, Van's building stock was extensively renewed; public buildings, hospitals and university campuses were delivered with complete fire safety systems. Over the years that have passed, we encounter three situations: a fault alert silenced on the panel for years, an aging control unit battery unable to sustain the system during power outages, and a room subdivided during renovation that is not reflected in the detection plan at all. How often should maintenance be performed?
We do not determine the interval; the standard to which each system is subject establishes its own inspection and test protocol. The table on this page shows line by line which standard governs which line: the pump room and sprinkler network are subject to TS EN 12845 and NFPA 25 operational and flow controls, the detection panel to CEN/TS 54-14 maintenance provisions. For the gaseous cylinder battery in the system room, we perform TS ISO 14520 weighing and seal integrity checks; for the hood line, we conduct NFPA 96 duct cleaning and NFPA 17A nozzle inspection as separate tasks; for hose cabinets we apply TS EN 671-3, and for portable devices TS 11827 is used as the basis. In Van, two local variables are added to this: if the warehouse stacking arrangement changes, intermediate inspection is moved forward; in flour-feed mills and similar facilities, detector cleaning is performed more frequently than the minimum interval due to dust and oil contamination.
