A supervisor unit that continuously monitors speaker lines. In case of short circuit, it cuts the line to protect the amplifier; in case of open circuit, it provides audible and visual warning. In emergency announcement systems, it is mandatory to know before a fire event, not during, that a speaker line is broken.
