ML-2173/M is a marine type conventional beam smoke detector that receives back the light it transmits from a reflector placed opposite it. It uses the same principle as the transmitter-receiver model; the difference is that all electronics are concentrated on one side and only a passive reflector is placed at the opposite end. It is preferred in high-ceiling ship lounges and storage decks. Since power and signal cables are not required at the opposite end, installation labor is reduced on marine vessels where cable routing space is limited.
