In the OTG model, Honeywell's Esser brand adds a carbon monoxide sensor to smoke and temperature measurement; the three data are evaluated together. Fires that release abundant CO and smolder deep within are reported before visible smoke even forms. It is more resistant to false alarms caused by dust. Because the CO threshold is freely adjustable up to 150 ppm, it can also be programmed as a technical alarm; the pre-alarm is 75 ppm.
