A redundant serial interface connecting control panel networks to management systems, other subnets, or a backbone network. A maximum of sixteen nodes can be defined on the backbone; with sixteen subnets, a hierarchical structure of up to 156 control panels can be established. Status information flows from the subnet to the backbone, while commands flow from the backbone to the subnet. This hierarchical arrangement allows each building in multi-building facilities to maintain its own network while being monitored from a central location.
